India did not experience any heat wave conditions for the second day running, as Delhi and some parts of North India received heavy rainfall, improving the country’s power situation as well.
The rainfall deficit narrowed to 14.5%, as per data released by the Indian Meteorological Department.
Kharif sowing was up 33% on June 28, compared with the previous year, with pulses sowing up 181%, paddy largely unchanged and higher acreage under oilseeds.
Power data indicates India faced an energy shortage of 3.3 million units on June 27 compared with 14.3 million units the previous day. Rajasthan and Bihar continued to face energy shortages.
Seven states are still staring at rainfall deficits of over 50%, while five, including Delhi are looking at an over 50% surplus.
India’s average reservoir levels are also likely to improve, they were down 16.7% from normal on June 27, compared with 8.7% last week.
