Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran on Thursday revealed two incidents from 2023 that made a mark on him due to the incredible nature of the feat and the lessons in resilience and mental strength it imparted. In his year-ender letter to colleagues, Chandrasekaran said that in a year of encouraging news for India, the success of Chandrayaan-3 and India's defeat in the cricket ODI World Cup stood out for him.

"The first was our trailblazing lunar mission, in which we became the first nation to successfully land a craft on the south pole of the moon. This incredible feat, achieved with a modest investment of only Rs 600 crore, won admiration at home and abroad, and offered a timely demonstration of what our nation can do," he said. "Often we talk in excited terms about India's future. But this was a vivid reminder of how far we have already come."

Speaking about the Indian cricket team's performance in the World Cup, the Tata Sons chairperson added, "I know the loss in the final was enormously disappointing. Like many Indians, I have great memories of the World Cup wins in 1983 and 2011, and huge admiration for the XIs led by Kapil (Dev) and (MS) Dhoni. But the cricket played by Rohit Sharma's team on the way to the final was more clinical than anything I have seen."

The confidence and attitude of the team, N Chandrasekaran said, were contagious, and a wonderful lesson in the value of resilience, preparation, mental strength, and collaboration.

"Such qualities will be crucial as the Group moves forward with our transformation journey next year," he concluded.
