Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet, delved into the future of artificial intelligence (AI), discussing Google's developments and what sets them apart for 2024 in a conversation with content creator Brian Tong. However, it was a light-hearted moment involving his name and a viral meme that added an unexpected twist to the dialogue.
Tong, known for his discussions on tech innovations, couldn't help but point out the humorous connection between Sundar Pichai's name and AI. "AI is in the last two letters of your name – it's coded into you. Has anyone pointed that out?" Tong joked.
Pichai, with a chuckle, admitted, "You know, I didn't process it, but I did have a laugh at Google I/O when somebody edited my video with just 'AI, AI, AI, AI.'" The interview cut to a clip of Pichai repeatedly saying "AI" and "generative AI," at the event. Pichai further remarked, "I thought it was fun – fun to watch - but the name is a good twist."
Tong, inspired by the amusing coincidence, playfully suggested, "Maybe we can make a T-shirt out of it, put it in the store." Pichai, ever the pragmatic CEO, responded with a grin, "No, probably not a good idea."
While the conversation between Pichai and Tong primarily centered on the evolution of generative AI and Google's AI platforms, this brief moment of levity was hilarious.
Pichai also talked about defining moments in tech such as the advent of smart phones to PCs to AI and then AR ahead and also how the culmination of DeepMind and Google Photos in 2016 when the company made finding and organising pictures “much better”. “We as a company will be AI first in whatever we do,” he said.
