Sudha Murty says wife's burdens should be shared: 'All men of this generation should help in kitchen'

Sudha Murty also talked about how couples should not be upset together.

Sudha Murty talked about achieving work-life balance and advised couples on how to maintain a strong family life even after being working professionals.

“When you are married, you are bound to fight. Accept that. If you say you have never fought, you are not husband and wife,” the engineer-turned-philanthropist and author said while speaking at the India Today Conclave 2024. She also said that when one person is upset, the other one should be cool.

“When you fight, one person is upset, second should be cool. They should not open their mouth. When Murthy is angry, I will never talk. Let him pour out what he wants to. I keep quiet,” she said. “When I am angry, he keeps quiet. But, in real life, I keep quiet most of the time,” Murty added.

She also talked about how couples should not be upset together. “That is a recipe for further fights,” she said.

Murty also spoke about how there are no perfect couples and everyone comes with their own “plus and minus”. “Life is give and take. There’s no perfect life, no perfect couple. He comes along with his plus and minus. I have my own plus and minus.”

Talking about sharing wife’s burdens, she urged all men of this generation to help their wives in the kitchen. “All men of this generation should help their wife in the kitchen. It is very important.”

“She should be software engineer, come back and cook. She should attend PTA meetings. No. You have to share the burden of your wife. Because you stay in a city and you’re young. Both of you have aspirations. But, you have to share your difficulties,” Murty added.

“All men normally talk. Oh, my mother was a great cook. Because she was not working. She would cook all day. Wife is working then you expect she should be like your mother. It is not possible.”

Meanwhile, Sudha Murty, 73, took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP at Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar’s chamber in Parliament House on Thursday. She took her oath in Kannada.

"I am happy and at the same time I feel I have been given more responsibility. It is very nice of him, he (PM Modi) appreciated my work, I want to thank him. I am happy that I will get a bigger platform to work for the poor," she told ANI.
