Singapore High Commissioner to India Simon Wong shared pictures of a car roaming around Delhi bearing a fake embassy number plate. Wong alerted the internet and residents of the national capital about a silver Renault car that appeared to be parked at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport.

Wong warned about the suspicious car claiming that the “63 CD” number was fake. He also mentioned that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Delhi Police have been alerted about the vehicle.

“Alert. The car below bearing 63 CD plate is FAKE. This is NOT our Embassy car. We have alerted MEA & the Police. With so many threats around, be extra careful when you see this car parked unattended. Especially at the IGI,” Wong wrote in the caption of the post while sharing two pictures of the car.

The post, shared on X, garnered massive attention and several social media users thanked Wong for the timely warning. Others called it a huge security risk.

“Serious issue. Could be grave security threat in a place like Delhi,” a user wrote. Another user commented, “Thanks H.E, for alerting. Will sound our team at the IGI.”

“At the first look, it appears to be fake. I am not sure why it was not intercepted in first place. Matter is serious & must be properly investigated. Thank you HE for being so vigilant,” a third user remarked.

“This is a huge security threat/lapse and should be thoroughly investigated,” a fourth user added.

Diplomatic vehicles in India typically feature a blue-coloured number plate with “CD” followed by a two-digit code, all written in white. The “CD” on the embassy number plates stands for ‘Corps Diplomatique’.
