The festival of Ram Navami will be celebrated in different parts of India on Wednesday, April 17. The day commemorate the birth of Lord Rama and falls on the ninth day of the Chaitra month in the Hindu calendar.
On the occasion of Ram Navami, devotees observe fasts, offer prayers and take part in different religious events.
In some parts of northern India, Ram Navami is celebrated with grandeur, where idols of Lord Rama, his wife Sita, his brother Lakshmana and his devotee Hanuman are carried around on streets with devotees singing devotional songs, chanting hymns and taking part in other spiritual activities.
This year, the festivities will hold extra significance in Ayodhya with the inauguration of the Ram Mandir and preparations have been in full swing in the Uttar Pradesh city, ahead of the festival on Wednesday.
Banks will be closed in some of the Indian states which include Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh.
