In a remarkable mid-air drama, a seasoned pilot with 18 years of flying experience donned an unexpected hat as a midwife, successfully delivering a newborn baby on a VietJet flight from Taipei to Bangkok. The high-altitude delivery unfolded after Jakarin Sararnrakskul responded to an emergency call from the cabin crew, leaving his co-pilot in charge of the cockpit.
As the airplane soared over the skies, the routine flight took an unforeseen turn when the pilot rushed to the aid of a woman in labour in one of the plane's bathrooms. The urgency of the situation compelled Sararnrakskul to take charge.
Upon reaching the expectant mother, the pilot discovered she was in active labour. With no time to spare, he successfully delivered the baby while the aircraft maintained its altitude thousands of feet above ground.
Dubbed "Sky" by the crew in a nod to his unique birth story, the baby was welcomed by paramedics upon the flight’s arrival in Bangkok.
Despite lacking any prior experience in delivering babies, Sararnrakskul expressed pride in aiding the unconventional birth at 30,000 feet.
"He will be able to tell everyone for the rest of his life that he was born in the air," the pilot told Fox News.
