A passenger boarded an Air Canada flight to Dubai only to jump off even before the plane took off, New York Post reported. The incident happened at the Toronto Pearson International Airport.
The unidentified passenger boarded the aircraft normally but then opened a cabin door instead of taking his seat aboard the Boeing 747 on Monday. He fell 20 feet on the tarmac and suffered unspecified injuries. The airline had to call the Peel Regional Police and other emergency services.
According to Air Canada’s website, the passenger’s "stunt" caused a six-hour delay as crews investigated the scene and tended to the passenger. A spokesperson for the airline told Global News that “all our approved boarding and cabin operating procedures were followed.”
A spokesperson for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority also confirmed that it was aware of the unusual incident. “We worked with the airline, Peel Regional Police and Peel EMS to provide support and to determine the immediate needs,” the spokesperson said.
It is unclear whether the passenger was arrested for his unruly behaviour or what injuries he may have sustained, according to New York Post.
Meanwhile, last Wednesday, 16-year-old boy assaulted a family member onboard an Air Canada flight, as per Fox News. According to the police, other passengers and crew aboard the flight were able to restrain the teen. He was arrested and later taken to a hospital in Winnipeg.
The boy’s unidentified relative was treated on the scene for minor physical injuries. After being grounded for two hours, the flight landed in Calgary about three hours late.
