Noida techie moves to Bengaluru, rents a 3-BHK flat for Rs 80,000. He has only 1 regret

'I respect my time more than money,' 26-year-old solutions engineer Ashish Jha said. 'When I moved from Noida to Bengaluru, I had made up my mind that I would cut the daily commute time as much as possible since in my previous job, I had to travel from Noida to Delhi.'

When Ashish Jha moved from Noida to Bengaluru a year ago, he knew he had to shell out a much fatter rent to take up a flat in the city, and he was prepared for it. The 26-year-old software engineer preferred paying more to live near his workplace than moving into a more pocket-friendly place one or two hours away.

That's why when he came across a 3-BHK flat in Purva Sunflower, a gated community in Binnipete, within 15 minutes from his office, he decided to take it up even though the rent was Rs 80,000 per month.

"I have all the amenities here that I possibly need here," Jha told Moneycontrol. "This was a fully furnished place so I did not have to spend time furnishing it. There's a bus stop, metro station, and a market nearby so I don't have to venture far away for anything."

But recently, when the solutions engineer at Okta shared an appreciation post on X with a picture clicked from the flat on the 19th floor, the amount of rent he appeared to pay took social media users by surprise. The post went viral.

Speaking to Moneycontrol, Jha revealed that he does not pay all of the rent by himself. He has two flatmates who occupy the other two bedrooms.

"Also, I respect my time more than money," he said. "When I moved from Noida to Bengaluru, I had made up my mind that I would cut the daily commute time as much as possible since in my previous job, I had to travel from Noida to Delhi."

When a few X users asked if he too had been facing water and electricity problems like several other parts of the city, Jha said, "Not every area in the city has a water problem, electricity problem. To add to it some areas actually have a very functional metro. And if you live in such a area close to the city center, the rents are meant to be high."

But when asked if he has any regrets living the Rs 80,000-rent flat, Jha said he had just one: "All my friends live too far away! And it takes us a lot of time to visit each other, but apart from that, I have no other regrets."
