Actor Nayanthara has broken her silence on the controversy generated by “Annapoorani” days after a police case was registered against the film for hurting Hindu sentiments.
In an Instagram post which began with the words “Jai Shri Ram,” Nayanthara apologised for hurting religious sentiments while identifying herself as “someone who wholly believes in God and frequently visits temples across the country.”
“In our sincere attempt to share a positive message, we may have inadvertently caused hurt. We did not expect the removal of a censored film, previously showcased in theatres, from the OTT platform,” she wrote.
“My team and I never intended to hurt anyone's sentiments and we understand that the gravity of this issue. Being someone who wholely believes in God and frequently visits temples across the country, it is the last thing I would intentionally do.
“To those whose feelings we've touched, I extend my sincere and heartfelt apologies,” the actor said.
In his complaint, the 48-year-old complainant, a resident of Mira-Bhayander, said the film also promotes love jihad'.
“Annapoorani” revolves around a woman from a conservative Brahmin family who aims to become a renowned chef. She steps out of her comfort zone to begin eating meat. The film was removed from Netflix following widespread backlash.
“The intention behind 'Annapoorni' was to uplift and inspire, not to cause distress Over the last two decades, my journey in the film industry has been guided with a singular intention - To spread positivity & foster learning from one another,” Nayanthara said in her Instagram post.
