Four years after a 70-year-old man from Mumbai got married to a 56-year-old woman, he discovered that his wife had sold off a flat that belonged to him behind his back.
Now, the television serial maker whose identity has not been revealed, has filed a complaint against his wife for allegedly misusing a power of attorney wrongfully selling the flat and causing him a loss of Rs 3.5 crore, The Indian Express reported. An FIR has been registered and an investigation is underway.
According to the report, this is the complainant's second marriage. He got separated from his first wife with whom he had two sons -- one died in 2017 and the other continued to live with him and also began to work in television serial production.
Then, in 2016, the 74-year-old met the accused Renu Singh who claimed to be working with an NGO. They soon entered into a relationship and got married in 2019, the publication reported.
The complainant told the police that his daughter-in-law -- wife of the deceased son -- had filed a petition in the high court over property issues and since it was difficult for him to fight the legal battle due to his age, he gave the power of attorney to his second wife so that she could fight the case at court.
But in December 2020, Renu Singh allegedly took advantage of the situation, sold the flat, and transferred Rs 3.61 crore from her husband's bank account to hers. When the septuagenarian discovered this, he approached the police and filed a case against her.
