Fashion labels going the extra mile to grab eyeballs is nothing new, but one recent stunt at a fashion show in Chennai has copped negative publicity on social media. Footage that has been widely shared online shows a model wearing a dress with an inbuilt aquarium and live fish swimming inside it. The video has invited criticism for potential animal abuse.
In the clip shared on Instagram by “ohsopretty_makeover”, the fish is seen being poured into the dress’s inbuilt fish bowl. One person is seen transferring the fish from a plastic bag into the fish bowl, which is incorporated into the dress itself. To keep the marine theme going, the dress is heavily embellished with seashells and pearls.
In another video, the model can be seen walking the ramp while wearing the live fish. The bizarre dress was reportedly showcased at a fashion show in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
“You don’t keep so many fish in such a small space. Plus they need proper oxygen,” wrote one person. “Using innocent animals just to look fashionable? Absolute cringe,” said another. “Living beings are not accessories,” a third commenter wrote.
However, the dress found at least a few supporters on Instagram – including connoisseur of outlandish dresses Urfi Javed. “Love it,” Urfi Javed wrote in the comments section of the clip.
