While there is a lot of information available to help you prepare for possible questions that you may be asked during a job interview, are you prepared to ask questions to your prospective employers? According to a vice president and workforce expert at LinkedIn, Aneesh Raman, asking questions at a job interview shows that you are interested in the future of the company.
One question, in particular, can clue you in on how the company invests in the future of its employees, he told CNBC Make It.
“The most important question to ask before you accept a job is: What is your culture of learning?” Raman said, adding that the workplace scenario has changed tremendously in recent years among rapid tech advancements and an uncertain economic picture.
“We don’t know so much of what’s coming,” Raman told the publication, “but one thing we know is that organisations that build a culture of learning, and that have employees who lean into that culture of learning, are going to be able to adapt.”
Another question to ask at the job interview that may be more useful to new professionals is how managers promote a culture of learning, Raman said. “Part of that culture of learning is learning how to work well with others,” he added. Young professionals “need real coaching about corporate speak and corporate culture and things like what you’re supposed to do in meetings.”
The LinkedIn executive also suggested asking about how a learning culture extends to the regular work with managers and other senior leaders to better grasp how the professional world operates.
