Google India has introduced a QR code-themed Diwali rangoli design that is gaining traction on social media. This new approach to Diwali shagun (customary gift-giving) allows visitors to transfer money through a QR code embedded directly within a rangoli outside the home’s entryway. Google India’s official Instagram account shared a video of this initiative, which demonstrated a guest scanning the code on the decorative rangoli to send Rs 500 via Google Pay before entering.

The post captioned, “Masti rukni nahi chahiye #KeepTraditionsAlive,” has drawn significant online attention, with users engaging enthusiastically with the idea. Comments praised the concept, with one user commenting, “I’m going to send this to my sister to make this exact rangoli,” while another remarked, “Creative idea. This is the future, though.” Some even expressed a desire to replicate the QR rangoli for their own Diwali celebrations.

Other users, intrigued by the interactive rangoli, tried scanning the QR code displayed in the video, resulting in a flood of questions regarding the recipient of the payment. One curious user asked, “Yeh batao, yeh rangoli ghar pe kaise banaun? (How do I make this rangoli at home?),” to which Google replied with its signature style, “Yeh bhi Google karlo (Google this too).”

"Creative idea. This is the future," a user remarked.

The video quickly attracted viral attention, effectively capturing the festive spirit promoted by Google India. The tech company also introduced other Diwali-themed features on its platforms, offering interactive elements that bring elements of the festival to user screens. By typing keywords such as “Diwali,” “Rangoli,” or “Diwali Sweets” on Google Search, users are presented with pop-ups showcasing virtual oil lamps, rangoli, and sweets.
