An unofficial ‘singles group’ has been created by former students of the prestigious Indian School of Business seeking relationships, reportedly in response to dissatisfaction with matrimonial websites and dating apps. A list of rules and requirements of the group has made its way to social media, where it has cracked up X (formerly Twitter) users.

The group, apparently created on “popular request”, is designed to connect single people among alumni, with a few simple rules: married individuals are prohibited from joining, singles must be genuinely interested in relationships or marriage, and members must exit the group once they enter a committed relationship.

"Hopefully we get many more alum couples here and everyone will lead a happy, married, fulfilling life," the message from the alumnus reads.

This post quickly made its way to X, where users responded with a mix of amusement and criticism. Some of the trending comments include playful takes on the name of the college, such as: Institute of Single Bachelors, In Search of Bae, Indian Shaadi Bureau and so on.

Others questioned the underlying logic of the group, with one user remarking, “It’s sad that ISB can’t even make people capable of choosing a life partner themselves. How can they even define that if two people are studying at ISB, they will be a good match for marriage?”

Another user chimed in with some sarcastic encouragement, commenting, “If you couldn’t manage to get a bae during ISB, here is your second chance!”

This group was not officially endorsed by ISB itself but was set up by some of its alumni. Though it seems to be in good spirits, the mixed reactions on social media highlight varying perspectives on alumni-led matchmaking efforts. Some view it as a fun initiative, while others question the idea of formalising relationships within an elite academic network.

There are similar such platforms as well like IIT-IIM Shaadi.com that drew a lot of criticism for apparently promoting segregation and has been called classist.

The Indian School of Business is located in Hyderabad and has a campus in Mohali.
