A thrilling turn of events has made an Indian-origin man an overnight millionaire. Balasubramanian Chithambaram, a Singapore resident, won a grand prize of US$1 million (approximately Rs 8.45 crore) in a lucky draw organised by Mustafa Centre, a popular shopping mall in Singapore.
Chithambaram's stroke of luck came after he purchased gold ornaments worth S$70,000 (approximately Rs 3.7 lakh) for his wife. This purchase made him eligible to participate in the lucky draw.
Mustafa Centre announced the news on social media, sharing the excitement of the moment when Chithambaram was revealed as the grand prize winner. "What an unforgettable day at Mustafa Jewellery's Million Dollar Event! On 24th November, we witnessed history being made as the grand winner of USD 1,000,000 was revealed amidst cheers and excitement!" the store captioned the post.
Overwhelmed by his sudden fortune, Chithambaram expressed gratitude and shared his plans to give back to the community. "Today is also my father's fourth death anniversary. It's a blessing," he said. "I plan to donate a portion of the money to charity."
The Singapore High Commission in India also congratulated the lucky winner on Twitter. "Congratulations to Mr Balasubramanian for winning the US$ 1 million (8.5 crore rupees) lucky draw, shopping at the iconic Mustafa 1 Centre @mustafacentresg in Singapore. Crorepati dreams do come true in SG," the tweet read.
Meanwhile, this incredible win follows another recent lottery jackpot. A British man recently claimed the third-largest lottery prize in history, pocketing £177 million (approximately Rs 1804.16 crore) in the EuroMillions jackpot.
