An act of vandalism caught on camera has landed a person in trouble with the police – and with his mother. On Sunday, November 5, three men riding a scooter in Bengaluru broke a car’s mirror while passing it by. The act of senseless vandalism was recorded on another car’s dashcam and shared on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter), where it caught the attention of Bengaluru Police.

In the video, three men can be seen riding a gearless scooter. Seconds into the video, a pillion rider stretches his hand and breaks the rear-view mirror of a car to his left. The mirror is seen breaking and falling on the road while the pillion rider turns around to grin.

The video was shared on X by a handle called ‘ThirdEye’.

Taking suo moto cognisance of the incident, Bengaluru Police traced the registration number of the scooter and reached the owner’s residence in Jayanagar on Wednesday morning. There, they were met by a homemaker who said the scooter was registered in her name but used by her 21-year-old son Rohit.

The woman revealed that Rohit works as an assistant at a fuel station, according to a Times of India report. At the time of the incident, Rohit’s friend was riding the scooter. Rohit, riding pillion, was the one who smashed the car mirror.

When his mother saw the footage, she was shocked and shouted at Rohit.

“Rohit’s mother was shocked on seeing the video and shouted at her son. When asked as to why he smashed the mirror, Rohit calmly replied that he was under the influence of alcohol and did it for fun,” cops told Times of India.

Further investigation revealed there were 39 other traffic violations listed against the two-wheeler. The scooter has been seized and a fine of Rs 21,500 has been levied on the owner for 41 traffic violations.
