Google CEO Sundar Pichai made a surprise appearance in the commentary box during Day 3 of the fifth and final Test between India and England at the Oval on Saturday. As the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy approached a dramatic conclusion, Pichai joined veteran broadcaster Harsha Bhogle for a brief but memorable stint behind the mic.

Pichai, a self-confessed cricket enthusiast, was in the box during a pivotal phase of India’s second innings, as Washington Sundar launched a blistering counter-attack that shifted momentum in India’s favour. The timing was poetic—Sundar on air while Sundar was at the crease.

The Indian all-rounder’s 39-ball fifty, laced with four sixes and four boundaries, electrified the crowd and drew a standing ovation from the Indian dressing room. His knock helped India post 396, setting England a daunting target of 374.

Pichai, meanwhile, impressed with his composure and timing—pausing commentary during deliveries and offering thoughtful insights on the game and the series. “I’m sitting next to the best,” he quipped, acknowledging Bhogle’s compliment on his natural ease behind the mic.

Reflecting on the series, Pichai praised the intensity and competitiveness of both sides. “What a series it’s been. Loved the fight between both teams. At this point, I’d put money on a 2-2,” he said, backing India to level the series with a win in the decider.

Bhogle later posted on X, “I don't think I have been in a commentary box with a corporate leader of this stature. Loves cricket, is extraordinarily down-to-earth. #SundarPichai.”

As the Oval crowd buzzed with anticipation and India edged closer to a potential series-levelling win, Pichai’s cameo in the commentary box added a unique layer to an already riveting Test match.
