Even at 62, Harsha Bhogle is still one of the most revered voices of cricket.

It is safe to say that whenever an Indian household sits to watch cricket, Harsha Bhogle’s insightful commentary is actually looked forward to. The renowned cricket commentator has earned himself the title of “the voice of cricket” over the year. His journey has been great, to say the least.

On Sunday, to commemorate his 40th anniversary as a cricket commentator, Bhogle took to Instagram to share an invitation that he got from Doordarshan, way back in 1983. The public service broadcaster had invited Bhogle “to provide commentary and also to present the curtain raiser on September 9, 1983 for India vs Pakistan One Day International”.

The time and duration of the match were also mentioned. Interestingly, Bhogle received a sum of Rs 350 for his debut as a cricket commentator.

"Four decades ago, on this day, I had my first ODI experience," Bhogle wrote in his viral post.

"I vividly recall the eager young man who was desperately seeking opportunities and the kind-hearted producer from DD-Hyderabad who gave him this break. The evening before the match, I sat on a roller, clad in a simple t-shirt, doing the curtain raiser. The following day, I had two commentary stints. Over the next 14 months, I had the opportunity to comment on two more ODIs and a test match. I am filled with gratitude,” he added.
