A seven km run organised by Indian Dental Association will get underway here on September 2 to promote IDA's theme of 'brush your teeth twice a day.'
The main aim of the 'Denthaton-2012+, in which nearly 2,500 people are expected to participate, was to create dental awareness, much needed in the present scenario of junk food and changing lifestyles, Dr P Surendran, Secretary, local chapter of IDA, told reporters here today.
There would be four categories for school students, boys and girls and general category, who would run in different distances from three to five to seven km, he said. Another sports meet for dental surgeons, the first of its kind, would be held on Sept 1 by IDA Coimbatore, which holds the Guinness world record for screening 19,904 patients in 24 hours in 2010, he said.
The events would include cricket, volleyball, shuttle, table tennis, 100 Metres and 200 Metres races, shot put, discus, javelin, walkathon. About 400 surgeons from 20 branches from the state would take part, he said.
