Charles Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, who delivered a passionate speech at her funeral, has announced his engagement to a Canadian charity worker.

Charles, 46, the ninth Earl of Spencer, will marry Karen Gordon, founder and CEO of Whole Child International, at the ancestral home where Diana is buried, on June 18 this year.

The wedding, Spencer's third marriage, will take place just a few weeks after his nephew Prince William weds fiancee Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey on April 29.

Spencer delivered an emotional oration at Diana's funeral in 1997 rebuking both Britain's royal family and the press.

He accused the media of hunting Diana down, sneering at her good works and being "at the opposite end of the moral spectrum" in a tribute which triggered enormous applause inside and outside Westminster Abbey.

Spencer has four children from his first marriage to ex-model Victoria Lockwood and two other children from his second marriage to Caroline Hutton.
