Chennai was battered with heavy rain on Monday as Cyclone Michaung hit the city and its neighbouring parts. Though the rainfall has stopped now, there are several low-lying areas that are submerged in water still. Amid the aftermath and rescue of people from the floods, David Warner shared a heartfelt note on Instagram and also urged other people to help out those in need.
The Australian cricketer shared a video that showed flooding in parts of Chennai. The clip also featured people being rescued on makeshift boats and the damage that was caused by the inundation.
“I’m deeply concerned about the ongoing floods affecting many areas in Chennai. My thoughts are with all those who are impacted by this natural disaster,” Warner wrote, adding, “It’s important for everyone to stay safe, seek higher ground if necessary. If you’re in a position to help, please consider supporting relief efforts or offering assistance to those in need. Let’s come together to support where we can.”
Since being shared, Warner’s reel has amassed over nine million views. Social media users hailed the cricketer and thanked him for his support for the people of Chennai.
“This is the reason why Indian fans love you even though you won the trophy against us. You're a true human, bro,” a user wrote. Another user commented, “Thanks a lot for the post mate, it means a lot to us.”
“Huge respect to Warner,” a third user remarked. “Reason why you are amongst the most loved overseas player in our country,” a fourth user added.
Another person wrote, “A man with an Indian heart.”
Meanwhile, Tamil actors Suriya and Karthi have pledged a donation of Rs 10 lakh for four districts, including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur. These districts have been heavily affected by the cyclonic storm.
