Public cloud services market in India is projected to grow 38 per cent to USD 1.81 billion in 2017, according to research firm Gartner.

The market size, which was about USD 1.31 billion last year, is expected to further touch USD 4.1 billion by 2020, Gartner said in a report.

The highest growth is expected to be driven by infrastructure as a service (IaaS) that is projected to grow at 49.2 per cent in 2017.

This will be followed by 33 per cent growth in software as a service (SaaS) and 32.1 per cent rise in platform as a service (PaaS) segment.

The increase of SaaS and PaaS are indicators that the migration of application and workloads from on-premises data centres to the cloud, Gartner said.

"We see increased cloud growth in the infrastructure compute services space as adoption becomes increasingly mainstream," Gartner research director Sid Nag said.

This has been predicted for a while, and the momentum continues to sustain in 2017 eventually plateauing through 2020 as the market further matures, he added.

"Additional demand from the migration of infrastructure to the cloud, as well as increased demand from compute intensive workloads, both in enterprise and startup space, is driving this growth," Nag said.
