Vyapam scam will be raised in Parliament: Scindia

Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday said the issue of Vyapam scam will be raised during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament as he accused Madhya Pradesh government of "inaction" in probing the massive irregularities, in which many accused and witnesses have lost their lives.

"We believe that the delay has been caused on part of the state government's inaction over all these years. Many lives have been lost. Those who gave bribes, many thousands of them are lying in jails but those who have taken bribes are still roaming around free," Scindia told PTI.

He said quick action on the scam and also with regard to the deaths is very much required. Asked whether the Congress will raise Vyapam scam in the Parliament, the Congress chief whip said, "Absolutely." CBI has registered at least four cases, following Supreme Court's direction in this regard, to probe Vyapam scam.

"We have great faith in the judicial system of our country. We are very assured now that the Supreme Court has mandated CBI probe. But we would like SC-monitored CBI probe.

So that it is time bound and it is transparent," said Scindia, Lok Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh's Guna constituency. Massive irregularities in various professional examinations and government job tests conducted by Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or 'Vyapam' have been unearthed.

The first case in the scam was registered by the state police on July 7, 2013, at Rajendra Nagar police station in Indore.

The scam allegedly involves several state government officials, former ministers and politicians, mainly belonging to the state's ruling BJP, police officials said.

At least, 55 cases have been registered by the police and 2,000 accused have been arrested, they said. Opposition Congress has alleged at least 49 people associated with the scam have so far died under "mysterious" circumstances.
