CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat on Wednesday demanded a "serious investigation" into allegations that Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran had indirectly been a beneficiary of kick-backs.

Maran is facing allegations that his family-owned Sun TV Network was a beneficiary of pay-offs by a Malaysian company which benefitted from equity sold by mobile service provider Aircel.

"What I have seen of the case, I think it requires a serious investigation," he told reporters after calling on his ally, AIADMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

This was the first meeting between the two leaders after the rainbow coalition led by AIADMK, Left and DMDK swept the April 13 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
