Vilasrao Deshmukh on life support: Sources

Union Science and Technology Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh is critical and on life support in a hospital in Chennai, according to sources. He was flown to Chennai on Monday night. It is unclear as to what he is suffering from, but reports say it may be related to his liver.

Union Science and Technology Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh is critical and on life support in a hospital in Chennai, according to sources. He was flown to Chennai on Monday night. It is unclear as to what he is suffering from, but reports say it may be related to his liver.

According to the sources, the 67-year-old senior Congress leader from Maharashtra who is ailing for sometime was brought by the special flight around 6 pm on Monday and immediately taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

"We are studying the case," a source in the hospital said to queries on the condition of the former Maharashtra chief minister.

Deshmukh recently underwent medical tests at the Breach Candy hospital in south Mumbai.
