A man and his fiancée defied the odds as they survived not one but two separate plane crashes that occurred just 40km apart on the same fateful day in Italy. The couple had embarked on what was meant to be a routine flight to enjoy lunch with friends near Turin, Italy.
Stefano Pirilli, 30, and his fiancée Antonietta Demasi, 22, got two light aircrafts to fly to their destination.
The couple's seemingly idyllic day turned into a tale of survival. Stefano, piloting a two-seater plane, shared the chilling details of the ill-fated return. "The day had started so beautifully, and it ended up with us both crashing in separate planes," he lamented.
The abrupt change in weather and the encroaching mist blinded them as they attempted to land, leading to the inevitable collision with the ground and a meadow.
Antonietta, experiencing her first flight, emerged with an injury to her pelvis, while Stefano miraculously walked away unharmed. Firefighters swiftly responded to both crash sites, cutting them free from the wreckage.
Stefano provided a firsthand account of the chaos, stating, "We fell foul of the weather and the time – the mist started to come up as the temperature dropped and then all of a sudden it was night." The decision to land at different airfields added another layer of complexity to their ordeal.
The couple was taken to a hospital in the aftermath.
