Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti commemorates the 17th-century Maratha warrior king's birth anniversary, marking his 394th year in 2024. Born in present-day Maharashtra's Ahmadnagar on February 19, 1630, Shivaji stands as a towering figure in Indian history.

Renowned for his valour, military genius and leadership, he founded the Maratha Empire and revolutionised warfare tactics with his pioneering "Ganimi Kava" or "Shiva Sutra" against the Mughals in 1645.

From a young age, Shivaji displayed remarkable prowess. At just 15, he persuaded Inayat Khan, the commander of Bijapuri, to surrender the Torna Fort, marking the beginning of his conquests. His forces expanded the Maratha Empire, capturing and fortifying strategic locations with impressive structures that endure as testaments to his reign.
