As 2023 draws to an end, we look at some of the influential people and celebrities around the world who breathed their last this year.

1.) Charlie Munger

Charles Munger, the alter ego and sidekick to legendary American investor Warren Buffett for almost 60 years died on November 29. He was 99. Munger was vice chairman of Berkshire and one of its biggest shareholders, with stock valued at about $2.2 billion. His overall net worth was about $2.6 billion, as per Forbes.

Yesteryear’s famous child actor Junior Mehmood died on December 8 in Mumbai after a battle with stomach cancer. Born Naeem Sayyed, the actor's journey in the film industry began as a child artiste with the 1966 movie "Mohabbat Zindagi Hai." Over the years, he had notable roles in films like NaunihalCaravanHaathi Mere Saathi, and Mera Naam Joker.

3.) Matthew Perry

Matthew Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing on the sitcom Friends, was found dead at a Los Angeles-area home on October 28. As per reports, the actor was found in a jacuzzi at the home, and no drugs were found at the scene.

4.) Satish Kaushik

Veteran actor Satish Kaushik died on March 8 after suffering a heart attack. He was 66. An alumnus of the National School of Drama (NSD), Satish Kaushik had a stellar career in the Hindi film industry that spanned nearly three decades. His breakout role was Calendar in Mr India (1987), and he went on to star in several critical and commercial hits. He was also a director with more than 15 films to his credit, including Tere Naam, Badhaai Ho Badhaai, and Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain.

5.) Andre Braugher

Andre Braugher, who starred in hit shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Homicide: Life On The Street, died on December 11. He was 61. Braugher died after a brief illness on Monday, his publicist confirmed to CNN. The Chicago-born actor had his breakthrough role in 1989's Glory, starring alongside Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington, who won an Oscar for the film about an all-Black army regiment during the Civil War.

6.) Nitesh Pandey

Popular television actor Nitesh Pandey died on May 23 due to a heart attack in Maharashtra. He was best remembered as Dheeraj Kapoor from the television show Anupamaa. The Uttarakhand-born actor’s other notable outings include shows such as Ek Prem Kahani, Saaya, Justajoo, and Durgesh Nandini, among others. Apart from television, Pandey has often appeared in films such as Om Shanti Om, Khosla ka Ghosla, and Badhaai Do.

7.) Michael Gambon

Sir Michael Gambon, best known for playing the character of Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films, died on September 27. He was 82. A statement on behalf of his wife Lady Gambon and son Fergus, issued by publicist Claire Dobbs said, “We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon. Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia."

8.) Vaibhavi Upadhyaya

Actor Vaibhavi Upadhyaya, best known for her role in the TV show Sarabhai vs Sarabhai: Take 2, died in a road accident on May 22. Upadhyaya was travelling in a Fortuner in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh when her SUV fell into a gorge. She was with her fiancé at the time of the road accident, who is safe. The accident occurred while trying to navigate a steep turn.
