A 35-year-old railway worker took an extraordinary measure to combat a venomous snake bite. While sleeping at his base camp after a day's work on laying railway lines in Navada, Bihar, Santosh Lohar was bitten by a snake.
Rather than succumbing to panic, he turned to an age-old belief: he bit the snake back, twice, hoping to neutralise its venom.
Driven by this local superstition, Lohar bit the snake, ultimately killing it.
However, this act of desperation quickly turned into a medical emergency. Lohar's colleagues, realising the severity of the situation, rushed him to the Rajauli subdivision hospital.
Despite the bizarre circumstances, his recovery was swift, and he was discharged the following day.
This incident draws a parallel to another unusual case from Chhattisgarh a couple years back, where an eight-year-old boy reportedly bit a venomous cobra to death after the reptile attacked the child.
In 2022, a two-year-old toddler bit a snake to death after the reptile bit her lip while she was playing in her family home’s garden in Turkey.
Last year, an American man bit off the head of a pet python during a domestic dispute. He was jailed on charges of animal cruelty.
