A couple from Chhatisgarh, who had separated 13 years ago after coming to Kolkata for medical treatment, were reunited recently at Gangasagar Mela, the Times of India reported.
Gurbari, 27, was mentally unwell. She and her 11-year-old son were brought to Kolkata by her husband Lalit Bareth in 2010. But they got separated in the hustle-bustle of the city. The police found Gurbari near the city airport and admitted her to Pavlov Hospital for the mentally distressed while her child was handed over to a shelter.
Gurbari had been unable to share the address of her home, making it impossible for the police to trace her family.
Two months ago, Pavlov Hospital informed the police that she had recovered completely. Although Gubari was still unable to share her family's address in detail, the police figured out that she used to live near Madhya Pradesh or Chhattisgarh where there were a lot of brass utensil factories, the Times of India reported. The details were shared on the police officers' WhatsApp groups along with her photos and soon the police managed to trace her address and inform her family.
On January 8, Bareth had an emotional reunion with his wife. He had returned home 13 years ago after failing to find her and their boy but he returned to West Bengal every year during Gangasagar Mela in the hopes of being united with them. He also did not remarry despite being persuaded by his family, the publication stated.
The couple are in Kolkata as they complete their formalities and will be leaving for their home in Chhattisgarh in a couple of days.
