The stocks for wheat and rice in the Central Pool as of July 1, 2025 were 736.61 lakh MT, higher than the required buffer of 411.20 lakh MT.

The Centre had on August 25 mandated that basmati rice contracts only with a value of $1200 per tonne or above could be registered for exports till October 15. However, the order was extended by the government till ‘further notice’.
In 2022, India exported a record-breaking 22.26 million tonnes of rice, reflecting an annual growth rate of 3.5 percent.
Export restrictions by major rice producers including India fed panic in the market in 2008, forcing big purchases by countries such as the Philippines that caused Asian benchmark prices to nearly triple to around USD 1,000 a tonne.
Rice stocks have been up on the charts due to Thursday’s news of India allowing unrestricted exports of wheat and common or non-basmati rice. With this limitless export benefit, KRBL's chairman and managing director Anil Mittal expects to export about 100,000-150,000 tonne rice.
