India scripted history as ISRO's ambitious third Moon mission Chandrayaan-3's Lander Module (LM) touched down on the lunar surface on Wednesday, making it only the fourth country to accomplish the feat, and first to reach the uncharted south pole of Earth's only natural satellite.
He said all district education officers in the state were instructed to open schools from 5 pm to 6 pm for students to watch the live-telecast of the moon mission.
Chandrayaan-3 is expected to land in the southern region of the Moon approximately 6:04 pm IST on August 23, 2023. If the landing is successful, India will make history by becoming the first country to achieve a gentle spacecraft landing on the lunar South Pole
JAXA and ISRO are developing the rover and lander, respectively. The rover will carry not only the instruments of ISRO and JAXA but also those of US space agency NASA and European Space Agency (ESA).
Chandrayaan-2 was launched on July 22 from Sriharikota.
The European Space Agency's probe, known as Philae, has become the first man-made satellite to land on a comet.
