The book by S Somnath, which loosely translates to "lions that drank the moonlight," reportedly had critical remarks about former ISRO Chief K Sivan and the failure of Chandriyaan-2.
K Sivan, former chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation said that Chandrayaan-3 fixes the errors of Chandrayaan-2 and improves on its various parameters
The performance of the engine met the test objectives and the engine parameters were closely matching with the predictions during the entire duration of the test on Wednesday, the Bengaluru-headquartered space agency said.
S Somanath will succeed K Sivan, who has served as the chief of ISRO since 2018. Sivan’s extended tenure will end on January 14.
Somanath will succeed K Sivan, who completes his extended tenure on Friday, January 14.
Sivan, also Secretary in the Department of Space, said many French companies are keen to tap into opportunities thrown up by recent reforms injected into the space sector by the Government.
The third mission to the Moon or Chandrayaan-3, under which ISRO aims to land a rover on the satellite, has been delayed due to the coronavirus-induced pandemic and is now likely to lift off in 2022.
The Bengaluru-headquartered space agency had planned to launch its maiden human space flight mission 'Gaganyaan' by December 2021.
The Bengaluru-headquartered space agency under the Department of Space (DOS) has come out with revised technology transfer policy guidelines - 2020.
The space agency said it is also looking at paving the way for the insurance sector to render services in the space domain.
Addressing the inaugural session of a symposium on "Human Spaceflight and Exploration - Present Challenges and Future Trends," Sivan said the Gaganyaan mission not only aims at India's maiden human flight to the space but also setting up a new space station for 'continuous space human presence'.
"Usually, the first flight is very crucial and even countries such as the US, Russia and China sent only one person for the first time and for a very short time – one orbit, or one day..." ISRO chief K Sivan said
He said a large number of advance satellite launches are planned in the coming months.
Making oblique references, he criticised Sivan’s inept handling of the Chandrayaan 2 mission and considering it a failure just because the Vikram lander crashed on the lunar surface instead of a soft touch down.
After the lander was spotted on September 8, ISRO had 14 days to establish connection with the lander, ending September 21.
The lander will execute a 15-minute soft landing, and after four hours, the rover will descend on the moon. "Precise execution is important," said ISRO chief K Sivan
Gearing up for the mission, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ISRO has set up a new centre to facilitate the manned voyage involving a three-member crew, he said.
ISRO had earlier said Chandrayaan-2 will be launched in a window between January-February 16 this year.
"The experiments have been going on since 2004 but it was not on our priority list," ISRO chief R Sivan said.
The launch of the mission was first planned in April.
Sivan has also contributed to the development of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle - India’s workhorse rocket for space missions
