Kapil Mehan, managing director, Coromandel International says the company is not likely to have more than a 5 percent production impact on the damage caused by cyclone Hudhud.
"Swinging into action following the devastating cyclone that hit us on October 12, production in our plant is now in full swing. We hope to produce a minimum of 10 percent more than what we did in the last fiscal," RINL's Chairman and Managing Director P Madhusudan said
"After the devastating cyclone on October 12, 2014, RINL swung into action for speedy revival. Production in all the units including Rolling Mills has been revived," the steel maker said in a statement.
Maximum impact of the cyclone was witnessed in south Chhattisgarh's Bastar division where an average 65-70 mm rainfall has been recorded since last evening, triggering rise in water level in rivers and small streams.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted saying he will visit the affected areas on Tuesday. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also spoken to the Chief Ministers of Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh after heavy rainfall was forecast in these states.
The very severe cyclonic storm, Hudhud, made landfall at Visakhapatnam on Sunday at 11:30 am taking the wind speeds to as high as 170 km per hour. Incessant rainfall was also reported, claiming two lives in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam.
Villages along the Visakhapatnam coast are being evacuated from morning. The MET department predicts a storm surge from the sea will inundate low-lying areas of north coastal Andhra Pradesh at the time of landfall, says GP Sharma, Vice President, Meteorology, Skymet Weather Services.
The uthorities in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh have planned mass evacuations in the wake of this cyclone.
Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth, who heads the National Crisis Management Committee, has asked the representatives of all central ministries, departments and Chief Secretaries of the state governments concerned to take necessary steps for preparedness to meet any eventuality from the cyclone, a release issued by the Home Ministry said.
