The coal ministry announced in June 2023 that it has accepted a salary adjustment deal struck with trade unions for non-executive workers of Coal India.
No matter what is the demand this year, the government is prepared to meet the same, the minister said at a conference on underground coal mining here.
At 982 MT, the country's total coal production is 14.65 per cent higher from 778.21 MT produced in the 2021-22 fiscal, the minister said in a statement.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, coal minister Pralhad Joshi said the steps were being taken by the Centre to augment the coal output in the country by engaging mine developers and operators.
Replying to queries in the Rajya Sabha during the Question Hour, the Coal Minister said India's domestic coal requirement will reach 1,500 million tonnes by 2030, for which the nation needs to scale up its production.
Commercial mining would be important to achieve the goal of energy security, he said.
Pralhad Joshi, the coal minister, promised on Friday that there would be no power outages in the country from now on due to a coal shortage. Low stock at power plants has been hampering the country's power generation for weeks, according to the statement.
The minister added that there was a need to be conscious about the environment and keep in mind the sustainable mining goals.
The power ministry on Thursday that the government has ordered all imported coal power plants ordered to operate at full capacity as power demand has surged almost 20 percent in energy terms.
Earlier in the day, Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi said cumulative coal supplies to thermal power plants crossed 2 million tonne on Tuesday and dispatch of the dry fuel is being enhanced to the plants

"Coal India has taken... steps to boost its coal production, (including) opening of 55 greenfield projects having capacity of 92 MTPA (million tonne per annum) and expansion of 193 brownfield projects having capacity of about 310 MTPA in next five years," Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi said in a reply to the Lok Sabha.
"This target is not unachievable. Please take this as a challenge and turn this into a possibility," Goyal said at the 43rd foundation day celebration of CIL here last evening.
India will use domestic coal for its proposed 4,000 megawatt power project in southern Tamil Nadu state, instead of imported it, Coal Minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday, as the south Asian nation seeks to cut its overseas purchases.
State-owned CIL is looking at spending Rs 8,500 crore on capital expenditure next fiscal, starting April 1.
"The recent spurt in global coal prices, particularly for coking coal, is expected to create an encouraging scenario for such acquisition process," Goyal told lawmakers in a written reply.
"Niti Aayog carries out an annual assessment of requirement of coal for the country. This assessment has been done for the period up to 2016-17 wherein the demand for coal has been assessed at 884.87 mt," Coal Minister Piyush Goyal said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
"Multi-dimensional efforts are underway by Coal India Limited to substantially enhance coal production to meet the coal requirement. As on August 8, 2016, coal stock for 23 days is available with thermal power stations," Coal Minister Piyush Goyal said during question hour.

Ministries of Chemical and Fertilizer and New and Renewable Energy will come out with the draft policies for manufacturing of coal-based urea and second generation ethanol in three weeks, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said.

Although a majority of rural households do not have LPG or other clean cooking options, Uttar Pradesh scored better than other states while Jharkhand reported the lowest level of access to clean cooking energy, the survey found out.
Goyal had earlier said the Centre cannot be considered as a bailout bank for helping debt-ridden power distribution companies, and states will have to find a way out of the crisis. The combined debt of power distribution companies (discoms) stands at over Rs 3 lakh crore.
These 12 ports had handled 26.29 MT of coal during the same period of the last fiscal. Thermal coal is the mainstay of India's energy programme as 70 per cent of power generation is dependent on the dry fuel, while Coal Minister Piyush Goyal has been emphasising the need to increase the production by state-run Coal India.
The application said that during investigation, the chargesheet says that the allocation has been "made wrongly and not in public interest, (so) the ultimate final authority who made the allotment cannot be allowed to go scot-free without even facing the trial."
