The final answer key will carry several important details related to the examination. These include the exam date and exam time, question ID, and the corresponding correct answer ID. The answer key will also clearly mention any questions that have been dropped by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Candidates are advised to carefully check all these details while comparing the final answer key with their individual response sheets to accurately calculate their expected scores and avoid any confusion.

Only the top 2.5 lakh candidates based on their performance in JEE Main will be eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced examination. The eligibility list is prepared using percentile-based ranks after the normalisation process, which accounts for variations in difficulty levels across different shifts.

Candidates who meet the prescribed cut-off will be allowed to register for JEE Advanced, which serves as the next stage of the selection process for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Last year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the results of the JEE Main January Session 1 on February 11. The examination was conducted between January 22 and January 30. Following the evaluation process, NTA removed 12 questions from the final answer key for the January session.

• The NTA will also announce the JEE Main 2026 cut-off for qualifying for JEE Advanced.
• Candidates eligible for JEE Advanced 2026 can begin their registration process, which is typically announced in April/May.

According to the official marking scheme for JEE Main, candidates are awarded four marks (+4) for each correct or most appropriate answer. For every incorrect option marked, one mark (-1) is deducted as a penalty.

If a question is left unanswered or marked for review without selecting any option, no marks (0) are awarded. However, in the case of questions with more than one correct option, candidates will receive marks only if they have selected all the correct options; partial marking is not applicable.

If all the options for a particular question are found to be correct, four marks (+4) will be awarded to all candidates who have attempted that question, irrespective of the option selected.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has also clarified that although due care is taken while framing the question paper, if any question needs to be dropped due to an error, full marks for that question will be awarded to all candidates appearing in that particular shift, regardless of whether the question was attempted or not.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) began the registration process for the JEE Main 2026 Session 2 on February 1. The engineering entrance examination is conducted in two phases each year, with Session 1 held in January and Session 2 scheduled for April. The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 examination was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA between January 21 and January 29 in computer-based test (CBT) mode across various examination centres in India and abroad. Once the "Result" link is activated on the homepage, follow these steps:

Step 1. Go to the official website and find the active link for "JEE (Main) 2026 Session 1 Result."

Step 2. You will be redirected to a secure login page. Enter your Application Number, Date of Birth, and the Security PIN displayed on the screen.

Step 3. Click the "Submit" button. Your JEE Main 2026 Scorecard will be displayed on the screen.

Step 4. Carefully download the PDF of your result. Take multiple printouts for future counselling and admission processes. The scorecard will include your NTA score, percentile, All India Rank (AIR), and category rank.
