NPPA capped the prices of bare metal stent at Rs.7260 and drug eluting stent (DES) and biodegradable stents at Rs.29,600. Both the prices were exclusive of value added tax. DES constitutes 95 percent of the market.
The research and development (R&D) center will focus on creating market-appropriate products based on unmet clinical needs in emerging markets, and will also serve as a global product engineering center, it added.
The Indian medical device industry is currently valued at USD 4.4 billion, the fourth largest in Asia and the sector has the potential to grow to USD seven billion by 2016 with a growth rate of 10.15 percent annually, USIBC said.
