These airports were temporarily shut last week in view of the military standoff between India and Pakistan. The AAI, along with other aviation authorities, had issued a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), announcing the closures across northern and western India.
Prior to this, an Instrument Approach procedure by trial landing of an IAF transport aircraft on October 11, 2024, and a commercial aircraft by Indigo on December 29, 2024, were successfully conducted at the airport, the official said.
AAI will be responsible for implementing the modernisation, which will include the construction of longer runways, passenger amenities aligned with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, and the integration of digital technologies.
Since the fiscal 2021-22, AAI's expenditure towards these activities at the airports has been on the rise. The amount rose to Rs 795.72 crore in the last financial year ended March 2024, from Rs 663.42 crore in 2022-23.

The restrictions, which will be in force till January 29, will not impact scheduled flights.
