The monsoon session of the Parliament commences today and will conclude on August 12. During the session, the central government will seek to push several legislations and its legislative agenda includes 32 bills for passage - out of which 14 are ready. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that RBI expressed concerns on destabilizing effect of cryptocurrencies on the monetary and fiscal stability of a country.
Polling in the Presidential election is underway at the Parliament House and the state legislative assemblies. With the tenure of Ram Nath Kovind coming to an end on July 24, around 4,800 MPs and MLAs will cast their votes till 5 pm on Monday to elect the 15th President of India. The counting of votes will take place on July 21 while the next President will take oath on July 25.

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Monday amid opposition uproar over the issue of price rise and Agnipath scheme. Opposition members trooped to the well of the House as the House reconvened for the afternoon session at 2 pm.
Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day following sloganeering and disruption by Congress MPs over issues like price rise and GST.

- As the Monsoon session of the Parliament commenced on Monday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid tribute to former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated recently.
- "It is with heartfelt sadness that I wish to inform former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe passed away recently. The House pays heartfelt condolences on the same.
- He passed away on July 8, 2022. He (Abe) was the longest serving Prime Minister of Japan," Birla said.
- "Abe supported various interests that were beneficial for India.
- He considered Asia's two prominent democracies ie, India and Japan, as 'friends'.
- Due to this reason, the relationship between India and Japan became stronger under his regime," the Lok Sabha Speaker said.

615 lawmakers, including MLAs, vote in Parliament House till 1 PM in the Presidential election
- A total of 119 of the 126 Assam MLAs, including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, cast their votes for the presidential polls in the assembly on Monday.
- Of the 126 MLAs, 123 will cast their votes in the assembly while Congress MLA Bharat Chandra Narah has sought permission to exercise his franchise in the Parliament as he is in New Delhi for treatment.
- Two AIUDF MLAs -- Suzzamuddin Laskar and Nizamuddin Choudhury are currently outside the country.

- The day-one of the Monsoon Session of Parliament witnessed a ruckus created by the Opposition party members following disruption in Rajya Sabha proceedings, leading to the adjournment of the House for the entire day.
- A joint Opposition including Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and Shiv Sena created ruckus at the pandemonium in the House after oath affirmation and obituary references.
- Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu requested the members to maintain the dignity of the House and let it further contnue the proceedings in the normal way but several members of the Opposition parties trooped into the well of the House and started sloganeering.
- The Opposition members raised issues while interrupting the ongoing speech of the Rajya Sabha Chairman, and started sloganeering against the Central government, saying "Tanasahi Nahi Chalegi (dictatorship will not go on)".

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman; Cryptocurrencies are by definition borderless and require international collaboration to prevent regulatory arbitrage. Therefore any legislation for regulation or for banning can be effective only after significant international collaboration on evaluation of the risks and benefits and evolution of common taxonomy and standards.

- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman: RBI recommended framing of legislation on cryptocurrencies sector. RBI is of the view that cryptocurrencies should be prohibited.
Finance minister: "Currencies such as the British pound, the Japanese yen and the Euro have weakened more than the Indian rupee against the US dollar and therefore, the Indian rupee has strengthened against these currencies in 2022.”
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in response to lawmaker's question - "Global factors such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, soaring crude oil prices and tightening of global financial conditions are the major reasons for the weakening of the Indian Rupee against the US Dollar. Currencies such as the British pound, the Japanese yen and the Euro have weakened more than the Indian rupee against the US dollar and therefore, the Indian rupee has strengthened against these currencies in 2022."
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in response to lawmaker's question: "The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regularly monitors the foreign exchange market and intervenes in situations of excess volatility. The Reserve Bank of India has raised interest rates in recent months that increase the attractiveness of holding Indian rupees for residents and non-residents."
