While the ongoing huddle between the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) to form a government in Karnataka is underway, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has submitted his resignation to the Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala.
Vala has been holding the Governor's office in the state since September 2014. Before this, the BJP minister served as the Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2012–14.

Vala held these portfolios in the Gujarat government from 1998 to 2012. He also holds the record of presenting the budget in the Gujarat Assembly for the most number of times - 18.
Vala has also been closely associated with Rajkot Nagarik Sahakari Bank, where he planned, organised and developed the banking service. He was also the Chairman of the bank for five years on-and-off during 1975-90 period.
He entered politics in 1985 after being elected as an MLA from Rajkot-2 constituency, where he gained popularity among people after working towards solving the existing water crisis in the area. Following which, Vala was elected as an MLA of Rajkot constituency for seven consecutive times.
Vala was also the member of the Budget Committee of Gujarat State Assembly in 1985.
Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala was the President of Bhartiya Janata Party for Gujarat for the period from 1996 to 1998 and from 2005 to 2006.
He was awarded the 'Best Citizen of India Award' in 2006 by the International Publishing House, New Delhi for his works in political and social field.
The minister is known as an avid reader and is said to have a great command over the language. Vala also takes interest in sport, folk literature and music.
