Taiwanese contract manufacturer Wistron is looking to invest up to Rs 1,000 crore for an electronics production plant in Telangana, a report by The Economic Times said on July 29.
The manufacturer had sold its iPhone manufacturing facility in Kolar in Karnataka to Tata Electronics in 2023.
The company is exploring land options in Hyderabad, the report said, adding that the plant may manufacture servers, routers and switches.
The move is part of its expansion plans, under which it is also setting up a facility in Bengaluru that is expected to produce laptops by January 2026, the report said.
The company is likely to pick a location close to the electronics manufacturing hub of Hyderabad, the report said.
Meanwhile, the Central government is expected to extend the application deadline for electronics component manufacturing scheme, Moneycontrol reported last week citing sources.
“We have received healthy response to the scheme till now, and are considering extending the deadline by a short notice,” person aware of the development told Moneycontrol, adding that the current applications are being monitored.
In May, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said that the scheme in the first 20 days had attracted 70 applications. Tata Electronics, Dixon Technologies, and Foxconn are among the big players that have shown interest in the scheme, according to sources.
