A terrorist was killed while an Indian Army personnel sustained injuries during an encounter between terrorists and security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
Personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army, and CRPF were involved in the joint operation, the Kashmir Zone Police said on X.
“Based on specific intelligence, #encounter has started in Guddar forest of #Kulgam. SOG of J&K Police, Army and CRPF on job. Further details to follow. @JmuKmrPolice,” it said.
The security forces launched a search operation in the Gudar forest area following information about the presence of terrorists there, according to officials cited by PTI.
They said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened firing at the security forces' positions.
Last month, two Army soldiers were killed in action during a close combat with terrorists in the Kulgam district.
"Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of the Bravehearts, L/Nk Pritpal Singh and Sep Harminder Singh, in line of duty for the Nation. Their courage and dedication will forever inspire us. Indian Army expresses deepest condolences and stand in solidarity with the bereaved families," Army's 15 Corps headquarters wrote on X.
