A 37-year-old woman, who drove 600 km to meet her lover and demand marriage, was found dead in her car the next day. The man, identified as Manaram, a teacher in Barmer, has been arrested for her murder.
The victim, Mukesh Kumari, an anganwadi supervisor from Jhunjhunu, had separated from her husband nearly a decade ago. She reportedly met Manaram on Facebook in October last year, and the two began a relationship. Mukesh frequently traveled from Jhunjhunu to Barmer to visit him.
According to police, Mukesh wanted to formalize their relationship. She was divorced, but Manaram's own divorce was still pending, leading to tensions between them. On September 10, she once again drove to Barmer, went to his village, and informed his family about their relationship, a move that angered Manaram. Police were called in to mediate, and both were advised to resolve the matter amicably.
That evening, while they were together, Manaram allegedly hit her on the head with an iron rod, killing her on the spot. He then placed her body in the driver’s seat of her Alto car, pushed it off the road to stage an accident, and returned home.
The next morning, Manaram informed his lawyer, who in turn notified the police. However, during the investigation, authorities grew suspicious. Phone location data revealed both were at the same spot at the time of her death. Later during questioning, Manaram confessed to the murder.
Barmer SP Narendra Singh confirmed that forensic teams and a dog squad were called in and the case is being investigated from all angles. Mukesh’s body remains at the district hospital morgue, awaiting the arrival of her family.
