The action comes in the backdrop of a drunk driving incident in the city, where a 17-year-old allegedly killed two techies when his speeding Porsche rammed their motorcycle early on May 19.

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has on May 22 demolished two illegal pubs in Koregaon area of the Maharashtrian city and will overall take action against five illegal bars and pubs during the day.

The action comes days after a 17-year-old boy allegedly crashed his high-end car into a motorbike killing two persons in the city.

"We have taken action against two pubs till now and further action is underway. It is going on in various locations in Pune. Today, we will take action against five of the illegal bars & pubs," PMC deputy engineer Yogendra Sonawane said on May 22.

The minor, who is the son of a notable real estate developer in Pune, was observed consuming alcohol with his companions at a bar shortly before the tragic accident. Authorities have apprehended the bar owner for permitting underage drinking.

On May 22, the Juvenile Justice Board issued a notice to the boy to appear before it on Wednesday. This comes after the Pune police approached the board with a petition to review its bail order.

The board is expected to hear the revision petition at around 12 noon at its office in Yerawada area.
