The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on August 30 arrested a key accused in the Tamil Nadu Hizb-ut-Tharir case, which involves attempts to radicalise youth and establish an Islamic caliphate in India. The accused, identified as Aziz Ahamed alias Jaleel Aziz Ahmed, was apprehended at Bengaluru International Airport while attempting to flee the country, the NIA said.
The case, registered involves six individuals reportedly influenced by the extremist ideologies of Hizb-ut-Tharir, an international pan-Islamist organization. The organization is known for its efforts to establish an Islamic caliphate and enforce the constitution written by its founder, Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani.
According to the NIA's investigation, the accused had conducted secret gatherings, known as Bayaans, where vulnerable youth were indoctrinated with Hizb-ut-Tharir’s radical ideologies. These sessions aimed to incite support for the organization's goals and seek military assistance from forces hostile to India.
Aziz Ahamed is considered one of the main organizers of these secret Bayaans.
