The Noida International Airport carried out its first successful test landing on Monday. The flight validation test is seen as a crucial step in the aerodrome licensing process that will pave way for the commercial opening of the Jewar Airport.
As the IndiGo test flight carrying crew landed, customary gun salute was given amid loud cheers. The Jewar Airport, the second in the National Capital region, is seen as a part of plan to decongest the flyers’ rush on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport. Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, (MoS) Civil Aviation and Noida International Airport CEO Christoph Schnellmann lauded the test flight success.
"The successful completion of validation flights at Noida International Airport is a proud moment for our entire team. This milestone reflects the dedication and meticulous planning that has gone into ensuring the airport is ready for commercial operations. We are gearing up for the airport’s opening and look forward to welcoming passengers to the airport,” Schnellmann said.
Jewar Airport: What’s the launch date for commercial operations?
While there has been no official announcement so far, latest reports say that Jewar Airport is targeting the launch of commercial operations from April, 2025.
Jewar Airport: Beyond Yamuna Expressway - Impact on real estate boom
Latest data shows that the YEIDA residential scheme, which offers 451 plots, have received robust response. Over one lakh people have applied for only 451 plots offered by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority.
Similarly, sector 24A located near the Yamuna Expressway, has become a hot destination. the Greater Noida Authority collected nearly Rs 5,000 crore just from registrations of plots in this locality along the Expressway.
Not only Jewar, but nearby Faridabad is also witnessing a steady boom in the real estate prices. In Faridabad, experts project annual growth rates at 8 per cent by 2030.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, during his stint as Uttar Pradesh CM, had first proposed the Jewar Airport plan in 2001. Later, after Mayawati came to power, she also extended the support to the plan and acquired over 2,000 acres. After the hiccups during the UPA regime, the airport project saw support from both the Centre and the state.
Jewar Airport: Cost of the project
The estimated cost of the entire Jewar Airport project is pegged at Rs 30,000 crore. In its first phase, the airport will be handling 12 million flyers.
