BJP national president JP Nadda launched a scathing attack on West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and termed her actions 'anti-national. He also accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief of spreading information about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
"TMC is providing shelter to infiltrators and giving them ID cards and ration cards, making them voters, this is anti-national ... She is spreading misinformation about CAA," Nadda told ANI in an exclusive interview.
The BJP leader claimed that Mamata compromised with the nation for vote bank.
The West Bengal chief minister had asserted that the CAA 'discriminates against Muslims' and pledged not to implement the law in the state. She even vowed to repeal it if the INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) bloc comes to power at the Centre.
When asked why Mamata suddenly decided to provided outside support to INDIA bloc after having announced that TMC will fight the Lok Sabha polls on its own, Nadda said, "I can't speak about her thought process but her actions don't suggest that she has a stable mind. She always stays unstable," Nadda said.
"We will provide leadership to the INDIA, and help them in every way, from the outside. We will help form the government so that in Bengal, our mothers, sisters and those who work in the 100-days job scheme, don't face problems," she said while addressing a public meeting Bengal's Hooghly district earlier this week.
During the interview, the BJP president also slammed the TMC chief over the Sandeshkhali incident and questioned her initial silence.
"She (Mamata) was silent on the case of Sheikh Shahjahan. The high court had to give the enquiry to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) ... why was she quiet at first and later blamed BJP? She compromised with the nation for vote bank," he added.
On being asked how to bring an end to violence in Bengal, Nadda said that the Centre is ready to provide support but Mamata's intentions are not clear.
"Law and order is a state subject, we (Centre) can support them but Mamata Banerjee's intentions are not clear. Her intention is dubious," he claimed.
