Ahead of Bihar election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed the Congress' bid to woo women voters by distributing sanitary pads and called it an 'insult to women".
Under the initiative Priyadarshini Udaan Yojana, Congress aims to raise menstrual hygiene awareness. However, the picture of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the sanitary pad boxes, which will be given to over 5 lakh women in the state, evoked strong reactions from BJP.
"An insult to women of Bihar with Rahul Gandhi's picture on a sanitary pad! Congress is an Anti-Women party! Women of Bihar will teach the Congress and RJD a lesson," BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari on X.

Bihar MP Chirag Paswan also slammed the Congress party for distributing sanitary pads with Rahul Gandhi's photo on the packets. While talking to reporters, he said, "This is wrong. To what extent are you willing to go for campaigning? It's a good thing that you're distributing sanitary pads, but putting Rahul Gandhi's photo on them looks awkward and inappropriate."
The controversy underscores the fierce competition among political parties to appeal to women voters, who are expected to have a decisive influence in the upcoming polls.
The Mahagathbandhan has promised the Mai Behan Maan Yojana, which offers Rs 2,500 monthly direct benefit transfers to women, if elected to power.
Meanwhile, the incumbent Nitish Kumar-led government has launched Mahila Samvad, a door-to-door outreach campaign targeting two crore women across villages.
