According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Delhi recorded a 60.54% voter turnout, with women outpacing men at 60.92% compared to 60.21%. Among those who cast their votes, 50.42 lakh were men, while 44.08 lakh were women. This rise in female voter participation highlights their growing political influence, making them a key demographic for political parties.

Party insiders suggest that the council of ministers will feature “a blend of experience and youth,” ensuring representation from all major caste and community groups in the capital.

More than 25,000 security personnel and over 15 paramilitary force companies have been deployed across Delhi for the oath-taking ceremony of the new Chief Minister at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday, according to a Delhi Police officer. The event is expected to be attended by top BJP leaders, including Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states. "We have deployed over 25,000 police personnel along with 15 paramilitary companies," the officer said, adding that "robust" security arrangements have been put in place to maintain law and order.

"In and around Ramlila Maidan, more than 5,000 police and paramilitary personnel are stationed, and heavy deployment has been made at around 2,500 key locations across the city," he added.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled today at 12:35 PM at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan. The event will be attended by key BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president JP Nadda, senior Union ministers like Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, along with prominent figures from the business and cultural sectors.

Rekha Gupta's political journey began when she served as the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) from 1996 to 1997. She entered electoral politics by winning the Delhi Councillor elections from Uttari Pitampura in 2007 and secured another victory from North Pitampura in 2012. The BJP made a strong comeback to power in Delhi after 27 years, securing 48 seats in the 70-member Assembly.

Rekha Gupta brings a fresh and uncontroversial presence to Delhi’s political landscape, having dedicated over three decades to the BJP. Her appointment as Chief Minister signals the party’s emphasis on strengthening women’s participation in politics and governance. A seasoned leader, Gupta has a long political journey ahead. The assembly election results announced on February 8 saw the BJP winning 48 out of 70 seats, marking its return to power in Delhi after 26 years. The AAP, on the other hand, secured only 22 seats. Within the party, many had speculated that the BJP leadership might select a surprise candidate for the Chief Minister’s post, a strategy previously employed in states like Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.

As per protocol, outgoing Chief Minister Atishi, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia have also been invited to the swearing-in ceremony. Senior bureaucrats, including Delhi’s Chief Secretary and the Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, will oversee the official proceedings. A party leader revealed that three stages are being set up at the venue. The central stage will host Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, BJP chief JP Nadda, the newly appointed Chief Minister, and cabinet members. The other two stages will accommodate Union ministers, chief ministers, deputy chief ministers, and other distinguished guests.

According to BJP sources, nearly 50,000 people are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his cabinet ministers, and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states and allied parties. A senior BJP leader at the party office stated that the event will not only witness the presence of political figures but also include prominent personalities from various fields.

On Wednesday, the BJP appointed former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and national secretary Om Prakash Dhankar as central observers for the election of the party's Delhi legislature leader, who would assume the role of Chief Minister. Later in the evening, the CM-elect met with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at the Raj Niwas to formally stake her claim to form the new government.
